Marianna of the band Broen suddenly finds her voice supported by a raw distorted drum groove. Contrasting the downtempo hip-hop feel of the original, Bendik Baksaas reimagines the vocals by making them the center of an uptempo techno groove. The minimalistic soundscape lets details of breathing and distant echoes shine through, as well as keeping the lyrics the point of intuitive attention. Gradually the arrangement opens up to melodic elements, slowly unveiling tonal variations. The stable club groove breaks down to half tempo in an atmospheric and floating middle part before the four to the floor bass drum comes back just in time to drag the dancer back to reality.
The direct message and emotional intensity of vocals is a feared and loved tool in club music. Take the risk.
